In January 2017 reports will come out indicating A-F letter grades that the Commissioner of Education has assigned to each public school and district in Texas.
The grades assigned will be predominately based on overall student performance on STAAR assessments. The grading system will not account for the unique challenges and barriers faced by individual students or districts. Educational challenges known to be associated with socio-economic status, language acquisition, and disability will not be factored into the calculation of the letter grades assigned to districts.
While SISD acknowledges the importance of what our standardized test scores tell us, we join the collective voice of the districts concerned that the comprehensive work of a school district cannot be defined by a letter grade.
