Correspondence/Online Courses

Correspondence/ Online Courses

High school students may earn up to two (2.0) credits toward graduation through correspondence and distance learning courses. Prior to enrollment in any correspondence or online course, students shall submit an “Application to Enroll in a Correspondence Course” to the counseling office. These courses are subject to approval by the district. In electing to take a correspondence course, a student must maintain full-time enrollment in Sealy ISD schools. Students are responsible for paying all fees for course materials and resources.

Starting with the Graduating Class of 2028, when a student submits correspondence grades for properly documented courses from an approved institution, the campus will assign weights to grades based on the categories and grade weight system used by Sealy ISD, provided that the courses are offered to the same cohort of SISD students.

Credit toward state graduation requirements may be achieved by approved correspondence courses under the following conditions:

  1. The institution offering the correspondence course is The University of Texas at Austin, Texas Tech University, or another public institution of higher education approved by the Texas Commissioner of Education.  (Policy EHDE)
  2.  The correspondence or distance learning course includes the state-required essential skills.
  3. The student may earn up to two (2.0) credits toward graduation through correspondence courses.
  4. Seniors enrolled in correspondence courses must complete the course and submit the grade to the school by the last day of the first semester of the year they plan to graduate.
  5. Course enrollment fees, books, and materials are the responsibility of the learner.
  6. Applications must be submitted to the counseling office for approval prior to enrolling in a course. Any course started or taken without prior approval will not be accepted.

Beginning August 1, 2026, Sealy ISD approves correspondence courses from the following institutions: TTUISD, UT High School & TXVSN.

The district will annually review participation data for correspondence courses disaggregated by student group, including economically disadvantaged students, to monitor equitable access and outcomes. Adjustments to policy or supports will be made as needed.
