Sealy ISD Reopening Plan Highlights

  Cleaning/Disinfecting Protocols
  • All 'high touch' areas in classrooms, libraries, and gyms will be disinfected throughout the instructional day
  • All classrooms will be deep cleaned at the end of each day in addition to general cleaning
  • COVID Sanitizing Response (CSR) will be initiated if someone is ill
  • Air Conditioning units will be adjusted based on system (UV lights, HEPA air filters, 'fresh air' dampers)
  • Adding a precautionary monthly fogging method to the cleaning schedule
  • Restrooms and common areas will be cleaned twice daily
  • Use of enhanced cleaning products  such as 'Virucide'
Student Hygiene Protocols
  • Instruction and training to promote good hygiene practices
  • Hand sanitizing stations available in all classrooms and at campus entrances
  • Students and staff will sanitize hands every time they enter or exit the classroom
  • Students will be taught to wash hands for 20 seconds using soap and water
  • Students will wash hands throughout the day
  • Students and staff will maintain a distance of 6 feet when feasible
  • One way hallways and/or staggered passing periods will be enacted to promote distancing
  • Assemblies, large group gatherings and field trips will not take place until guidance is received saying they are safe
  • Outdoor spaces will be used when appropriate
  • Student belonging will remain separated from others
  • Proper cleaning of the electronic devices that are shared
  Health Screenings
  • These protocols apply to all SISD students and staff
  • All SISD staff, students and parents are asked to pay attention to their own health management to limit risks
  • There will be a COVID 19 health screening questionnaire completed prior to class assignments and schedules
  • Parents will conduct health screenings on a daily basis at home
  • Students who are not well and/or are exhibiting a fever SHOULD NOT be sent to school
  School Clinic Protocols
  • Campus nurses are prepared to keep our students and staff safe
  • Ill students will be moved to a separate area of the clinic and encouraged to put on a mask
  • Parents/ Guardians will be notified and ask to come pickup ill students immediately
  • The area occupied by sick students will be cleaned quickly and thoroughly

Confirmed or Suspected Exposure Protocols

  • Any individuals–including teachers, staff, students, or other campus visitors–who themselves either: (a) are lab-confirmed to have COVID-19; or (b) experience the symptoms of COVID-19 must stay at home throughout the infection period, and cannot return to campus until the school system screens the individual to determine that conditions for campus re-entry outlined in the full plan have been met.
  • Individuals – including students, teachers, staff, or other campus visitors who have had close contact with someone who is lab-confirmed should stay at home through the 14-day incubation period, and should not be allowed on campus if either of the close contact criteria outlined in the full plan are met.
  • If a Sealy ISD staff member or student is identified as testing positive for the COVID-19 virus and HAS BEEN on SISD properties, buses, or campuses the district will follow the chain of communication identified in the full plan.
  • Sealy ISD is responsible for balancing individuals need to know relevant health information to protect and promote their own well being, with the rights of our staff and students provided by the protections of the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). 
  Personal Protective Equipment Protocols
  • The district will provide 2 washable masks for all SISD students
  • Employees will be provided face shields to be worn at all times when social distancing can not be maintained
  • The district will comply with the governor's executive orders
  • Pre-K - 3rd grade: masks will be optional
  • 4th-5th grade: masks will be required during transition periods, arrival and dismissal
  • 6th-12th grade: mask will be required during transitions and in the classroom when social distancing can not be maintained
  • Masks must be worn when entering and exiting facilities and practice areas when not actively engaged in extracurricular actives (which might make mask-wearing impractical)
  Teaching & Learning

Parents can choose face-to-face or remote learning for their children.

Face-to-Face Learning
  • Regular in-school instruction

Remote Learning
  • Access to SISD staff & curriculum
  • PK-5th: Required minimum of 3 hours per day with academic content
  • 6th-12th: Required minimum of 4 hours per day with academic content
  • A student must commit to remote learning for the entire 9 week grading period  
  • Real-time & self-paced instruction
  • Internet & computer/laptop required
  • Less direct access to counseling services
  • More limited course selections for secondary students
  • 90% attendance rule still in effect

Visitors on Campus
  • Limited to essential business
  • Until further notice dining with students, lunch deliveries and classroom visits will not be allowed
  • All visitors will have to complete health screening questions
   Transportation
  • Families will be encouraged to drop students off/ pick students up, carpool or walk with students to reduce possible exposure of buses.
  • Hand sanitizer will be used when boarding the bus
  • Drivers will be required to wear masks
  • Windows will be open to allow air circulation
  • Buses will be disinfected after each trip
  • PPE guidelines apply on the buses
   Extracurricular Activities
  • Follow guidelines set forth by UIL
  • Locker rooms protocol details available in full plan
  • Enhanced facility cleaning 
  • Enhanced hygiene practices (sanitizer and hand washing)
  • Allow parents to transport their child to and from competitions (with a letter)
  • Social distancing at contests/ events/ activities
  • Students will bring their own water bottles
  Attendance
  • 90% attendance rule will remain in effect for the school year
  • Attendance may be earned through remote learning
  • Attendance will be taken for face-to-face and remote learners
   Counseling Services / SEL Supports
  • Teacher & staff learning on social emotional learning
  • Provide students with resources to support social emotional learning and mental health
  • Support SISD families with resources to help manage personal mental health
   Cafeteria and Food Services
  • Lunches will be pre-plated
  • SISD will offer a limited menu excluding self serve stations
  • Students will eat in various locations to maximize social distancing
  • Disposable utensils and condiment packages will be used
  • Enhanced disinfecting practices
  • Nutrition staff will use face coverings/ masks and gloves
  • Food deliveries are prohibited until further notice
  • Drive-thru meals will be available for remote learning at one SISD campus
 Special Education
  • SISD will ensure that student have access to a free and appropriate public education
  • Students who are entitled to instructional and related services and who choose to enroll in remote learning will be required to convene an appropriate meeting to revise their supports and services to ensure the District meets their individual needs
  • SPED instructional related services will be provided either virtually or face-to-face
  • Students' individual needs will be addressed on a case-by-case basis
  • Expectations should not be lowered for students when instruction is being received at home
  • Provide direct service minutes in alignment with IEP schedule of services
  • ARD meetings can be conducted virtually
  • All state/federal required timelines for ARD meetings and evaluations will continue to proceed regardless of instructional delivery model
