SEALY ISD UPDATE FOR INSTRUCTION DURING COVID-19 CLOSURE

In our greatest attempt to be as transparent as possible with you all, please read through the following document for further information and guidance regarding curriculum and instruction during the COVID-19 closure.

We understand our students, and parents might be missing the structure of the school day. So, in the short term, we will do our part to help you have productive days at home. You can count on us in the long term, as well, to provide the systems to keep our students learning at home for as long as they can’t assemble at school.

As Sealy ISD is closed in response to COVID-19, we are committed to continuing to support your students’ learning.  We encourage our families to stay strong, as we are all in this together. We truly appreciate your continued patience and support as we navigate through this uncharted territory and do our best to support our students.   We understand that the following might not be ideal for some parents/families. Together, we will work to find viable solutions if these methods of instruction will not work for you.

If you have any questions or concerns please email covid19faq@sealyisd.com. If emailing, please include your student's name and campus so that we can assist quickly and effectively. We will work together to help resolve any issues and promise to respond as soon as possible!

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

All grade levels will be utilizing an alternating daily schedule for students according to subject.

Mondays & Wednesdays:  ELAR and Social Studies Tuesdays & Thursdays:  Math and Science

Fridays:  Electives for HS students, PK-5 students are encouraged to use some of the free online resources we have published, iReady, or spend time doing other creative activities with your children such as board games, coloring/drawing, painting activities, cooking and music.

 PRIMARY  (PK-5th)

Paper packets for instruction will be available for pick up for all students in grades PK-5th Monday March 23 & Tuesday March 24 from 10:00-12:30 in the Selman Elementary car rider line. (You only need to come one day, as it will be the same packet handed out for the week). Please enter the North Side car rider line off of Hwy. 90. Once you get in the line you can follow the signs that will be posted. This is the same entrance being used for meal pickups. If you would rather access the packet electronically and print it yourself, please see the document container for the available packets.  Packets vary in size depending on grade / subject. This process is new to everyone and we might find challenges along the way. We promise to work together with everyone to continually evaluate and adjust the process to best meet everyone's needs. We are also hosting optional "homework hotline / teacher office hours" with your students' teachers. These will be held every Tuesday & Thursday from 2:00-4:00. Please email your child's teacher for more information or communication options. Once work is completed, please keep packets at home and work will be turned in when school resumes.

Important Reminder: Just do your best! Take plenty of time off to spend with your family and learn or explore new things! We are always so busy, now is a time we can slow down and enjoy, find passions or talents and spend time learning more about each other.

As you may know, SISD is far ahead of other districts in regard to our blended learning and approach to teaching and learning.  This means that we have already been using various online resources as valuable teaching tools on a day-to-day basis. This includes using Google Classroom and Google for Education tools and G-Suite programs (i.e. Docs, Spreadsheet, Presentation, and Forms).  Many of our teachers and students are familiar with these systems, which is why we will be using them as our new online learning system.

Grades 6-12 will be using Google Classroom to deliver educational content and materials.  You can access GC using a computer, tablet or cellular device.  GC has an app that can be downloaded to tablets or phones to make access easy.  To join your teacher's GC, view the available classroom codes listed in the document folder at the bottom on this page.

Blinn Dual Credit Students will continue online beginning Monday, March 23rd.  They will be using their eCampus accounts.  Students already have access to their established accounts through Blinn.

UT OnRamps English 3 courses will continue online with Mrs. Novicke.

She will also provide lessons and tips through Google Classroom following the district schedule.

Credit Recovery and DAEP students will continue using the Edgenuity programs to complete already assigned coursework.
