Sealy ISD's New Engineering Program to "Lead the Way" to Globally Prepared Students

Sealy ISD to Implement
Project Lead the Way Engineering Program

Sealy ISD is committed to providing our students with a global perspective on opportunity and fully preparing our students to realize their highest ambitions.  To assist our students in their quest for success, SISD is excited to announce the addition of engineering courses at Sealy Junior High and Sealy High School starting in August 2015.  SISD will adopt the Project Lead the Way’s (PLTW) nationally acclaimed STEM (science, engineering, technology, math) curriculum.  Students in grades 7 thru 12 will have the opportunity to choose to enroll in the PLTW elective courses.

Students who enroll in the PLTW courses will experience project-based learning at its finest, utilizing the same state of the art technology used by professionals today.  PLTW courses will challenge students to solve current problems, requiring them to call upon their innovation, collaboration and critical thinking skills.  These are all 21st century skills students need to be competitive in today’s world.

There are many advantages for students who are enrolled in PLTW classes. These students taking PLTW courses . . .

  • Receive training in state of the art technology, including computer software and equipment used by industry

  • Participate in a hands on, learn by doing program that utilizes team efforts

  • Enroll in a sequence of courses which may include design, digital electronics, principles of engineering, computer-integrated manufacturing and a capstone technology research project

  • Learn how to work as a team with fellow students to solve real world problems

  • Reinforce their study of math and science by learning the relevance of these subjects through application projects

  • Develop skills in making presentations to communicate their ideas

Sealy High School and Junior High students will learn more about what Project Lead the Way has to offer as they begin the course selection process.  We will strive to offer our students courses that allow them to be prepared for and competitive in today’s global markets.
